Unveiling

The custom of placing a monument over the grave of a loved one is an ancient Jewish tradition. From Biblical times onward, wherever Jewish communities have existed, Jews have continued this practice of erecting a memorial in honor of their deceased. This custom generally takes place about one year after the burial but can be done as early as three months and as late as is needed for the family. The rabbi will travel to the city of the cemetery and conduct a grave site service for the unveiling. Unveiling is a time when the shock of the death of the loved one has expired. It therefore allows a time to reflect about the good times, the happy times and the importance the loved one had on families and friends. The rabbi will assist you through this unique Jewish life cycle event.
